Delete, Do Not Defer

Kill the tasks you have moved four times.

Every list has items that have been carried forward for months. They are not waiting to be done. They are waiting to be admitted.

A task you have deferred repeatedly is giving you a small cost every time you read it and decide again. That cost is paid weekly, forever, for something you are evidently not going to do. Deleting it is not failure, it is recognising a decision you already made by not acting on it.

  1. 01

Find anything moved more than three times

If your tool tracks it, sort by that. If not, you will recognise them instantly.

  2. 02

Ask what happens if it never gets done

Most of the time the honest answer is nothing. That is the answer that matters.

  3. 03

Delete it, do not archive it

Archiving is deferring with extra steps. The point is to stop reading it.

  4. 04

    Do this monthly

New ones accumulate. Fifteen minutes a month keeps the list honest.
